Course Description
This course familiarizes shooters with basic firearms safety rules, Armed Texans range protocols, the proper handling of revolvers and semi-automatic handguns, loading and unloading of handguns, basic malfunction drills, and the fundamentals of pistol shooting in a classroom setting using dry fire training techniques. Each student should bring their primary handgun, a quality retention holster, at least two magazines (for semi-automatic pistols), and an appropriate range bag or case. No ammunition is needed. This is a 2 hour course of classroom instruction. Upon completion of this course, students will be issued an Armed Texans Safety Card.

10 Cardinal Rules of Firearms Safety

Firearms should be unloaded when not in use.

Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.

Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.

Use only the correct ammunition for your firearm.

Function test all firearms prior to loading.

Know the mechanical characteristics of your firearm and how to operate it.

Always wear hearing and eye protection wherever live ammunition is being fired.

Keep your finger straight and off the trigger (and the manual safety engaged, if applicable) until you are ready to fire.

Do not fire until you are certain of your target and the entire line of fire.

Obey all range safety rules and all commands from Range Safety Officers and Instructors.
